CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF IMPACT

YOUTH COUNCIL

Purpose and Mission

Connection to Foundation LAILA

The Youth Representative Council (YRC) exists to ensure that the voices of young people, including those with Down Syndrome and their peers, are integral in shaping Foundation LAILA’s programs and services, and encompassing the role of the community.

The YRC’s mission is to advocate for the rights of individuals with Down Syndrome, foster inclusivity, and create safe spaces where youth from diverse backgrounds can connect, learn, and lead. This group aims to elevate youth perspectives, empower young advocates, and support community integration through active involvement and leadership.

As an  essential entity of Foundation LAILA, the YRC operates in alignment with the Foundation’s overarching vision and mission. The Council works parallel to the Foundation, serving as a youth-led advisory body that contributes fresh ideas, advocates for inclusive practices, and enriches the organisation’s programs with their unique insights.

A designated Youth Representative from the Council will serve on the Foundation’s Board, ensuring direct communication and influence over service delivery and strategic initiatives.

The YRC will spearhead initiatives that raise awareness of Foundation LAILA’s mission and promote social inclusion. They will work collaboratively with the Foundation staff to collect and analyse data on their impact, integrating their findings into the Foundation’s broader strategic plans to refine and enhance program delivery to benefit children, young people and families with Down Syndrome.
